ANTI RAGGING POLICY FOR

(Prohibition, Prevention & Punishment)

ANTI-RAGGING RULES:

Ragging is strictly prohibited in the college. If somebody is found in such kind of activities, stern action will be taken against the culprit. Any individual or a group of individuals indulging in an act of ragging shall be dealt with as per the ordinance. Hon. Supreme Court of India has banned ragging. Ragging includes individual or collective acts or practices that involve physical assault or threat or use of physical force, which violate the status, dignity, and honor of any student. In order to prevent such activity in campus ‘Anti-ragging Committee’ is constituted at the beginning of the academic year by the Principal.

Code of conduct for the students to prevent ragging:

  1. Violate the status, dignity and honor of girl students.
  2. Violate the status, dignity and honor of SC and ST students.
  3. Expose students to ridicule and contempt thereby affect their self-esteem.
  4. Entail verbal abuse and aggression indecent gestures and obscene behavior.
  5. The Principal / the Anti-ragging committee shall take immediate action on any information of the occurrence of ragging.

What Constitutes Ragging  

Ragging constitutes one or more of any of the following acts:

  1. a. Any conduct by any student or students whether by words spoken or written to by an act which has the effect of teasing, treating or handling with rudeness a fresher or any other student.
  2. b. Indulging in rowdy or indiscipline activities by any student or students which causes or is likely to cause annoyance, hardship, physical or psychological harm or to raise fear or apprehension thereof in any fresher or any other student.
  3. c. Asking any student to do any act which such student will not in the ordinary course do and which has the effect of causing or generating a sense of shame, or torment or embarrassment so as to adversely affect the physique or psyche of such fresher or any other student.
  4. d. Any act a senior student that prevents, disrupts or disturbs the regular academic activity of any other student or a fresher.
  5. e. Exploiting the services of a fresher or any other student for completing the academic tasks assigned to an individual or a group of students.
  6. f. Any act of financial extortion or forceful expenditure burden put on a fresher or any other student by students.
  7. g. Any act of physical abuse including all variants of it sexual abuse, homosexual assaults, stripping, forcing absence and lewd acts, gestures, causing bodily harm or any other danger to health or person.
  8. h. Any act or abuse by spoken words, emails, post, public insults which would also include deriving perverted pleasure, vicarious or sadistic thrill from actively or passively participating in the discomfiture to fresher or any other student.
  9. Any act that affects the mental health and self‐confidence of a fresher or any other student with or without an intent to derive a sadistic pleasure or showing off power, authority or superiority by a student over any fresher or any other student.

Action Contemplated against students for indulging in and abetting ragging in the college.

Maharashtra Prohibition of Ragging Act 1999 which is in effect from 15th May 1999 has the following provision for action against ragging.

Depending upon the nature and gravity of the offence as established, the possible punishments, for those found guilty of ragging at college level shall be anyone or combination of the following.

  • Cancellation of admission.
  • Suspension from attending classes.
  • With holding / withdrawing scholarship / fellowship and other.
  • Debarring from appearing in any test / examination or other evaluation process withholding results.
  • Rustication from the Institution for period ragging from 1 to 6 semesters.

PLEDGE TO BE ADMINISTERED TO THE STUDENTS

I, a bonafide student of BA / BCOM / BSC II / III Year & M. Sc. II Year at Sanjeevanee Mahavidyalaya, Chapoli do hereby solemnly pledge that…

  1. I shall not indulge in any ragging activities either directly or indirectly, either on the campus or of the campus.
  2. I further pledge that I shall treat all my fellow students and junior students as my brothers and sisters.
  3. I shall be disciplined and maintain cordial atmosphere on the campus.
  4. I shall report any incident of ragging to the concerned authorities.
  5. I shall say no to the act of ragging and shall not be a party to ragging.
  6. I shall do all my best to make my institution a better place for learning and enlightenment.
