ABOUT DEPARTMENT

The department of Dairy science is one of the major departments of Sanjeevanee Mahavidyalaya, Chapoli that was started in 2012 with the objective of training students in the field of Dairy science to provide technically trained persons to the growing dairy industry of the state as well as of the nation. Since then the department has been imparting technical education to UG students. The Department of Dairy science is one of the core departments of the college. It consists of a well-equipped laboratory. The Dairy science Department was established to provide technical education in field of Animal husbandry and Dairy technology. It caters to the Technical manpower requirements at various levels by adopting a new concept of modular system in technical education with emphasis on practical training in industry.

MANDATE OF THE DEPARTMENT

To impart instructions in the discipline of Dairy Science to the students of UG degree programme. To carry out location specific and need based research in Dairy Science and Technology based on the feedback from the extension agencies, stakeholders and farmers of the this region.

MAJOR ACTIVITIES OF THE DEPARTMENT

TEACHING

The Department of Dairy Science is engaged in Teaching to the students of degree course of

  • Diploma in Dairy Technology (Community College)

EXTENSION

The department is actively helping the Dairy farmers by providing the the technical skill in Advanced Dairy farming as well in standardization, shelf life study and compositional analysis of milk and milk products.

 

RESEARCH AND CONSULTANCY PROGRAMME

The Department has a well-developed research and consultancy programme. The Department has delivered lectures and arranged consultancy to Dairy farmers in the past. The department is also engaged in research activities. Some of the areas of core competence are listed below:

  2. Standardization of traditional milk product ‘Ujani basundi’ from Buffalo milk,
